Wesak Day to be honoured with light parade, food offer by Kunzang Chokhor Ling Buddhist Association

PETALING JAYA, May 14 – This year’s Wesak Day (Sunday, May 15) celebration will be the 60th year since the day has been declared a national public holiday in Malaysia.

To mark the day, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of Siddhartha Gautama or Buddha Shakyamuni, the Kunzang Chokhor Ling Buddhist Association here will be hosting a grand celebration starting at 10 am with various activities at their centre in Sungai Way here.

Among the highlights will be a Tripitaka ( a collection of Buddha’s words) Light Parade at 7 in the evening led by monk Palden Nyima Rinpoche, the chanting of Buddhist verses, performances of Buddhist songs by well known Malaysian singers as well as the offer of food to visitors and devotees.

In a statement here, the association’s Chairman Dato Seri Daniel Lim Hock Sing said it was exciting that the event can be held grandly this year and expressed hope that the celebration will contribute towards continued prosperity and peace in the country.
