So, picture this: A science teacher wakes up on a spaceship with no idea how he got there. As his memory slowly comes back, he realises he’s on a mission to save Earth’s sun from some weird, destructive gunk, and it looks like a new friendship might be what saves the day.
Project Hail Mary is a sci-fi adventure movie from 2026, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and written by Drew Goddard, based on Andy Weir’s book, and it stars Ryan Gosling as a guy who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory, trying to figure out what’s going on.
Project Hail Mary first showed up in London on March 9, 2026, then hit U.S. theatres on March 20 through Amazon MGM Studios.
People loved it, and it’s already made US$170 million, making it the eighth biggest movie of 2026 so far!
This movie is a pretty solid sci-fi flick, even though it’s more about brainy problem-solving than explosions, and while the main character and his sidekick have a great dynamic.
I was a bit zapped out by how much they made the sidekick seem human, but honestly, the acting and visuals are super impressive.
This movie is less about hard science and more about really feeling things, kind of the opposite of a super-intellectual sci-fi like Interstellar. There isn’t much talking, but the music is huge and really tugs at your emotions. It's incredibly well made, and even though I loved Interstellar and The Martian, this film was a fantastic surprise, and I totally loved it!
Project Hail Mary is a rare gem in sci-fi, blending cleverness, emotion, and entertainment into a story of survival, communication, friendship, and hope, and Ryan Gosling really shines, acting mostly solo on a physical set with an animatronics sidekick.
This movie is just amazing all around – the directing, the beautiful visuals, and the epic music all perfectly tell a warm, emotional, and superhuman story about friendship, bravery, and doing good even when things seem impossible, ultimately bringing the kind of pure joy that movies are meant to deliver.
It’s really cool to see a good sci-fi movie that totally commits to its idea and trusts us, the audience, to get it. And honestly, it’s super refreshing how completely positive and uncynical it is – that’s a huge plus!
The movie is full of gorgeous shots and really well put-together editing, but at almost two and a half hours, it might feel a little long for some folks.
If you’re into sci-fi that’s more about thoughtful storytelling and less about explosions, minus the Jedi’s lightsabers and General Grievous, and if you appreciate good acting and beautiful cinematography, then yeah, I’d say it’s definitely worth checking out!
Get ready for a visually stunning journey that proves courage and connection can save the world. After all, 85 K IMDb users who rated Project Hail Mary with an 8.5 stars couldn’t be wrong, could they?
