No Opposition representation in Cabinet “family”

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 – Malaysia’s new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said that he would be announcing his Cabinet line-up this week once the list gets the approval of the King, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

There will be no representation from the Opposition in the Cabinet, according to media reports here today.

The Opposition can play their role by channeling their ideas through the National Recovery Council and the Special Committee on Covid-19, Ismail Sabri told reporters covering his visit to the recent flood disaster site in Yan, Keday.

He said discussions were ongoing before the final list is presented to His Majesty.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued here today, the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council said it will continue to be a strong Opposition in the Parliament and will play its role of check and balance in the country’s administration.

Acknowledging the selection of the new prime minister by the King in accordance with the Federal Constitution, the PH Council also thanked the 105 opposition Members of Parliament who had stood together in their support of PH’s prime minister candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The council said among the issues discussed at its meeting today included the present Covid-19 crisis facing the country, the prevailing economic situation and the predicament of the people under these conditions. They also discussed the need to speed up the vaccination rate as well.
