SEPANG, June 13: Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) has become the country’s first location for an EV Supercharging Project.
Jointly developed by Powerlink Asia Sdn Bhd, GM Auto EV Sdn Bhd, and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the initiative goes beyond installing charging stations but represents the creation of a future‑ready airport ecosystem designed to accelerate electric mobility adoption and advance Malaysia’s sustainability agenda.
The KLIA2 project introduces ultra‑fast EV charging facilities within the airport precinct, offering travellers greater convenience while supporting the electrification of airport transfer fleets, ride‑hailing services, and commercial vehicles. Globally, airports in Europe, North America, China, and the Middle East are integrating similar solutions to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate commitments.
Powerlink Asia’s Managing Director, Ethan Chen, also announced plans to install approximately 300 ultra‑fast EV charging stations nationwide within two years, underscoring the company’s ambition to reshape Malaysia’s EV landscape.
“This project is more than infrastructure,” said Powerlink Asia Director Winson Tan. “It gives EV users confidence, supports airport operations, and positions Malaysia as a regional leader in green mobility and sustainable innovation.”
