Malaysia Day celebration to be streamed live from Melaka

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 – The national level Malaysia Day celebration which will be held at the historic Proclamation of Independence Memorial Square in Banda Hilir, Melaka will be telecast live from 8.30pm today.

Local television stations and the Facebook channel of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, Information Department of Malaysia and Merdeka360.

A full-dress rehearsal was held on Thursday for the celebration, which is expected to draw a huge crowd including tourists visiting the city.

Several roads around the square would be also closed from 6pm today (Friday, Sept 16) onwards in conjunction with the celebrations, namely the whole of Jalan Kota, Jalan Taman close to Menara Taming Sari to the square and Jalan Parameswara (Hotel Equatorial Melaka).

Those joining in the celebration are also encouraged to take public transport to the area to avoid traffic congestion. Towards this, free bus service to the square and back will be also offered by Panorama Melaka from various points in the city including Pulau Melaka, Hospital Mahkota, Mahkota Parade, Menara Taming Sari, Red Square, and the Maritime Museum in the city centre.
