China’s VP visits Proton plant in Tg Malim

TANJUNG MALIM, Nov 9: China’s Vice-President Han Zheng today visited Proton’s automotive plant here.

He was accompanied by Malaysia’s Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong.

Also present were Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd (Geely) chairman Eric Lee, DRB-HICOM Berhad chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) chairman Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Proton chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Li Chunrong and Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah.

Han was taken on a tour of the factory floor and witnessed various models being produced by Proton.

Han arrived in Malaysia last night for a four-day official visit.

Meanwhile, Roslan said the visit emphasised the importance of the automotive high-tech valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim and how China could assist in expanding the AHTV project.

“The AHTV project involves DRB HICOM and Geely. Here we show the importance of AHTV and how the Chinese government can help smoothen the process for AHTV,” he told reporters after the visit.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the AHTV project would transform Tanjung Malim into a global automotive hub for new energy vehicles (NEV).

AHTV is a mega project involving an investment of RM32 billion spearheaded by Geely together with DRB-HICOM
