NEW YORK, Sept 22 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) — US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that he has made the United States the most powerful country in the world.
“While others have promised strength, I have used it to make America the most powerful country in the world,” Trump told the UN General Assembly, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
The US, he said, has become stronger than ever before.
“I can report to you with pride that America is back, and our country is stronger today than ever before. Our economy is the envy of the world. Our military is the most powerful on Earth. Our technology is second to none, and we are leading in virtually everything,” Trump said from the UN General Assembly rostrum.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly officially opened in New York on September 8. As is tradition, a High-Level Week will be held as part of the General Assembly. The general debate is scheduled for Sept 22–26 and Sept 28.
He added that the US will use its military power to defend vital national interests in the Western Hemisphere if needed.
“The United States will no longer permit threats to America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. And if necessary, we will use our unmatched military might to secure the vital national interests of the United States,” Trump told the UN General Assembly.
The US is adding munitions to its stockpiles faster than ever before.
“We have more munitions than we could ever possibly even think of using, and we’re building them at levels that we’ve never done before. We are adding to our stockpiles faster than we have ever been able to do before,” Trump said.
Trump also called those who say the US is running low on munitions “cowards” and “traitors.”
He expressed belief that the US and Iran will reach a peace agreement right after the upcoming midterm elections.
“I believe we’ll make a deal right after the election because it doesn’t make sense for them [Iran] not to,” Trump said during his address to the UN General Assembly.
The US midterm elections will take place on Nov 3.
Iran, he said, has repeatedly rejected deal proposals from the US.
“And again, I urged Iran to make a deal. And again, they refused.”
In his address Trump added that he would never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.
“From the first day I entered the political arena, have been unwavering. I will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump told the UN General Assembly.
He said global oil prices would soon fall to the level they were at before the conflict with Iran began.
“We will soon see a world free of the last 51-year menace, Iranian terror, and oil prices will come plummeting down even lower than they were at the start of the conflict,” Trump said.
