KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Embassy in Budapest, Hungary, successfully organised the second edition of Tram Sarong Budapest 2026 last Saturday, bringing vibrant Malaysian culture and colours to one of Europe’s most scenic tram routes.
The event, hosted by Charge d’affaires at the Malaysian embassy, Norafizan Mustaffa, in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, brought together members of Hungary’s Malaysian expatriate community, particularly Malaysian students pursuing their studies at universities in Budapest and Debrecen.
Supported by the Malaysian Association in Hungary (MAH) and the Malaysian Students Association in Hungary (MASIH), participants gathered at Jászai Mari Square on Saturday morning dressed in colourful traditional attire.

Budapest’s familiar yellow tram, running as a special service reserved exclusively for the event’s participants, was adorned with Malaysian flags along its sides, turning heads as it rolled along the Danube promenade, according to news portal Daily News Hungary.
The event drew inspiration from Malaysia’s popular “Keretapi Sarong” movement, which encourages people to wear traditional clothing in public spaces as a celebration of heritage and unity.
“The event served as a wonderful platform to showcase Malaysia’s unique culture and heritage in the heart of Hungary.
“Local residents and visitors enjoyed captivating traditional Malay dance performances, with many joining in the choreography, and savoured authentic Malaysian culinary favourites, including nasi lemak and traditional kuih,” according to the Embassy’s Facebook.
