KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 – The death of Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, this evening, is not only huge personal loss but for all party members who had struggled in the political front, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“He was a friend who was steadfast in our struggles right till to his end. The service and contribution he made can never be repaid materially,” the prime minister said in a Facebook posting following the minister’s death, which was announced by his daughter in her Facebook post late this evening.
Salahuddin died at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, Kedah following an emergency surgery for brain haemorrhage on Saturday. He was 61.
DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke expressed his condolences during an event late this evening, after getting the news of his death.
He described him as a true friend who remained sincere to party struggles. He also said arrangements were made for a special MAS flight to bring the late Salahuddin Ayub’s remains back to his hometown in Johor.
DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang in a statement issued in Penang described the late Salahuddin as one who was “most approachable and down-to-earth who could look after the interests of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.”
He said the death of the Amanah Deputy President was a great loss for the nation.
