PETALING JAYA, June 1: Suara Minda marked the auspicious day of this year’s Wesak on Sunday with the official launch of its – Minda Patch, a community gardening and wellness initiative.
The event brought together community members, volunteers, mental health advocates, and local residents in a celebration of mindfulness, sustainability, and social connection, a press statement issued by Suara Minda today said.
“Minda Patch is designed as a community space that promotes mental well-being through gardening, environmental stewardship, social inclusion, and meaningful engagement with nature. The initiative reflects Suara Minda’s commitment to fostering recovery, resilience, and community participation through practical and therapeutic activities,” the statement said.
Participants had the opportunity to learn from gardening specialist Iman, who shared valuable insights on soil composition, seedling preparation, sustainable vegetable cultivation, and the importance of respecting Mother Nature. His session highlighted the relationship between healthy ecosystems, nutritious food, and overall mental wellness.
A special highlight of the event was the symbolic planting of vegetable seedlings by Suara Minda President, Visha Arunagiri, together with Patron Dato’ Dr. Andrew Mohanraj, representing growth, hope, friendship, and new beginnings for the community.
The programme also featured an engaging Chair Yoga session led by Dr. Adrian Suresh, demonstrating how simple movement, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques can contribute positively to both physical and mental health.
In the spirit of compassion and community service, Suara Minda also donated food items to the residents of the Emmanuel Boys Home as part of its social responsibility.
The success of the event was made possible through the strong support of neighbours, friends, volunteers, and the KRT Seksyen 6 community, whose participation demonstrated the power of collective action in building inclusive and caring communities.
Suara Minda also extended its appreciation to Jared and the team from EVE Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre for their generous support and for providing the celebratory cakes that added joy to the gathering.
“Today, we planted more than vegetables,” said representatives from Suara Minda. “We planted hope, wellness, friendship, sustainability, and a shared vision for a healthier and more compassionate community.
“We also look forward to welcoming more community members to participate in future gardening, wellness, environmental, and mental health initiatives.”
