KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 – The death of former Defence Minister Tengku Tan Sri Ahmad Rithauddeen, 94, on Friday, April 29, is a great loss to the country, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who visited the former’s grave on Saturday at the Bukit Kiara Islamic Cemetery here.
Describing him as highly respected and experienced, he said Tengku Rithauddeen’s dedication to work was unsurpassed and that he would be remembered for his service to the country.
In an earlier Facebook posting, the prime minister also spoke of Tengku Rithauddeen’s immense contribution to the political party of UMNO.
“Allahyarham is not only a figure with extensive experience in government administration but also a highly respected UMNO veteran.”
Apart from having served as Minister of Defense from 1987 to 1990, Tengku Rithaudeen also held the Foreign Affairs portfolio and had also served as Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Information.
In the political arena, Allahyarham who is known as Ku Din was once the Vice President of UMNO, Chairman of the UMNO Disciplinary Board and UMNO Supreme Council Member.
