Record 360 Covid-19 deaths overnight

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 8 – A total of 360 people became victims of the Covid-19 as the virus claimed their lives overnight. In its daily briefing today, the Ministry of Health said the number of deaths from the virus has now reached 10,749 in total.

A total of 1,095 are being treated in the Intensive Care Units, with 571 of them using ventilators.

People who have recovered from the virus also rose by 17,055 to 1,026,398.

The number of daily positive cases remained at a high of 18,688 with 10 of them imported. This brought total number of cases to 1,262,540.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the relaxation of several restrictions for those who have completed their two doses of vaccinations including inter-state travel, dining-in flexibility in states that have transited to phase two and beyond under the National Recovery Plan.

As for the progress in vaccination, more than 24 million people in Malaysia have taken at least their first dose, with 8.5 million of them having taken their second dose.

In a separate statement today, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba said another two million doses of vaccines have been supplied to Johor state under the national immunisation programme for the month of August.

The vaccines will be distributed to all the vaccination centres in the state.

Todate, 50.2 percent of the adult population in Johor have already taken their first dose of vaccine. The new batch of vaccines is expected to ramp up the vaccination efforts in the state, he added.
