KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) — A train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line derailed this morning while passing through a track switch area near the Chan Sow Lin station.

In a statement issued today, Rapid KL said the incident was caused by a faulty track switch, leaving the train immobilised and disrupting service schedules along the affected route.

Following the incident, Rapid KL provided an alternative service plan, including free connecting train and shuttle bus services, to assist affected commuters.

“At the time of the incident, there were 25 passengers on board the train. All passengers were safely evacuated following operating procedures, and no injuries were reported. Passenger and staff safety remain our top priority. Our technical team is carrying out further investigations and recovery work at the location,” the statement said.

The operator also confirmed the authenticity of images of the incident circulating on social media.

Under the alternative service plan, trains from Sentul Timur station are turning back at Pudu station at four-minute intervals.

Shuttle train services are operating between Cheras station and Bandar Tasik Selatan station on Platform 1 every eight minutes, while shuttle trains between Ampang station and Pandan Jaya station on Platform 1 are also running at five-minute intervals.

Meanwhile, trains from Putra Heights station are turning back at Bandar Tasik Selatan station every four minutes.

In addition, Rapid KL has also deployed free shuttle bus services between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri and Pandan Jaya stations, as well as between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin and Cheras stations, with buses operating every 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Passengers travelling towards the city centre via the Putrajaya Line are advised to transfer trains at Sungai Besi station and follow instructions issued by station staff throughout the disruption period.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to refer to Rapid KL’s official social media channels and the MyRapid PULSE app for the latest updates,” the statement added.
