PUTRAJAYA, Jan 16 – Cash assistance for Malaysians who qualify is expected to be made in phases, starting Tuesday, Jan 17, a statement from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

A total of RM1.67 billion will be given out under a rebranded cash assistance programme, Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) for Phase 1. The cash assistance payment is also being made earlier than the anticipated payment in March this year, the prime minister said.

He said the unity government will be emphasizing on the Rahmah’s (compassionate) approach in defending the fate of the poor people especially those most vulnerable.

In line with that, the Government has introduced the Rahmah Umbrella concept as a key to initiatives helping the underprivileged in facing the cost of living challenges.

Thus, the cash assistance program for B40 under the Ministry of Finance is rebranded to Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) and will continue to be improved.

“I have decided that STR Phase 1 for the B40 group commence to January 2023 rather than the initial planning in March 2023 to ease the burden of the people’s lives.

STR Payments Phase 1 to 8.7 million B40 groups worth RM1.67 billion will be credited to bank accounts of recipients registered in the STR database on a gradual basis starting January 17.

STR recipients in inland areas including Sabah and Sarawak who have bank accounts or no bank accounts will also receive this payment on the same date.

STR recipients who do not have bank accounts can also make withdrawals at the Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Branch starting January 17, 2023.
