IPOH, Jan 12 — Quest International University (QIU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese education partner China-Malaysia Technology Innovation (Hainan) Co. Ltd to produce more trained special needs educators.
The tie-up will see both parties collaborating to offer more undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to budding special needs educators in an effort to introduce more well-trained teachers and researchers who will take the field forward.
Both parties also agreed to work toward establishing a centralised resource centre dedicated to special needs education, which will serve as a focal point for research, training, and dissemination of information related to special education needs.
At the same time, the joint-effort will also explore inculcating international insights and holistic learning via student exchange programmes.
Yesterday’s MoU was signed by Global Integrated Training Associates (GITA) chief executive officer Nicholas Goh and China-Malaysia Technology Innovation (Hainan) Co. Ltd founder and director Lu Zhi Fang. Present to witness the signing were former Perak state education committee chairman Tan Sri Chang Ko Youn, QIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Zita Mohd Fahmi, local education officials and a delegation of special needs educators from China.
The delegation also attended a symposium hosted by QIU, where experts in special needs education shared their insights and perspectives on advancing the field.
Earlier, the delegation joined special needs education training sessions, and visited the Perak Association for Intellectually Disabled (PAFID), as well as the experiential learning facilities on the QIU campus.
GITA chief executive officer Nicholas Goh said: “One of the guiding principles of our founder Dato’ Sri Dr Vijay Eswaran is that no one should be left behind. This maxim applies across the board to all our programmes, but it also extends to our view on education as a whole. We truly believe that children with special needs deserve to have the best education opportunities available to them, and as an institute of learning, it is our duty to work towards that noble goal.”

China-Malaysia Technology Innovation (Hainan) Co. Ltd founder and director Lu Zhi Fang said: “The Malaysia-China Industrial & Commerce Association (MCICA) has been committed to promoting economic and trade development, cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation between Malaysia and China.
“In the future, we will actively participate in talent exchange training, academic education and laboratory construction of higher education in Malaysia and China. This is mainly to learn from China’s professional education organisations, as well as the exchange and introduction of professional international talent. It will play a positive role in the Belt and Road Initiative between China and ASEAN countries.”
Quest International University (QIU) is a private and comprehensive university, which is a public-private partnership with the Perak state government.
