GEORGE TOWN, Sept 17 (Bernama) — Penang has been ranked 69th out of 402 cities worldwide in the 2026 Numbeo Safety Index, with a Crime Index score of 28.9 and a Safety Index score of 71.1.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the achievement reflects the state’s current level of safety and demonstrates public confidence in living their daily lives in a peaceful and secure environment.
“Today, I received a security briefing from Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng. Based on the briefing, Penang’s safety and public order remain peaceful, stable, and under control.
“There have been no reported incidents disrupting state stability or harmony. More proudly, the NUMBEO 2026 report ranks Penang 69th among 402 safest cities globally, with a Crime Index score of 28.9 and a Safety Index score of 71.1, he said in a Facebook post today.
Also present at the briefing were Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Zailanni Amit and state Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief SAC Helmi Aris.
Chow said the state government will continue to focus on security and public order, especially issues involving racial and religious sensitivities.
He added that the state administration aims for Penang to remain economically and physically advanced, safe to live in, secure for families, and harmonious for all.
“Peace is a shared responsibility. The government, security forces, and community all play a role in preserving the harmony we enjoy today.
“Penang must remain a place where people have full confidence to live, work, and build their future,” he said.
