Parliament: Kesuma plans to establish premium training institute to enhance TVET programme

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma), through the Labour Department (JTM), is planning to establish a Premium JTM Training Institute (ILJTM), the Dewan Rakyat was informed today.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said this initiative is part of efforts to revamp the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme under the ministry.

“Our goal is to offer more adaptable programmes and align with industry needs through partnerships with influential companies,” he said.

He was responding to Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen’s (PH-Kuching City) original question on the ministry’s plans to enhance Industrial Training Institutes (ILP) nationwide to ensure that the workforce meets industry demands.

In reply to a supplementary question from Yii on measures to prevent duplication in TVET skill areas, Abdul Rahman said Kesuma had taken steps by appointing only one leader for each field at institutions.

“We understand the necessity for some overlap based on location to accommodate the high number of applications and have launched a study to streamline the JTM skills programme,” he added.

Responding to Nurul Amin Hamid’s (PN-Padang Terap) inquiry into revision of allowances for ILP students during courses and industrial training, Abdul Rahman said the matter is currently under review.
