PUTRAJAYA, July 10: Durians and hotels don’t really mix or at least not openly.
However, this durian season, the Palm Garden Hotel in Putrajaya has taken the bold move to do just that, mixing the pleasure of the King of Fruits with some of its special hotel stay offers.
It is important, nevertheless, to inform that the newly re-opened Durian Hub of the hotel is not within the hotel building but rather a “far and safe” distance just outside its Palm Cafe Terrace grounds. Perhaps, this is to ensure that the “powerful” odor of the fruit does not offend those not familiar with the fruit.
Having said that, it is common knowledge that Malaysians and many foreigners just love the tasty, delicious durian and would pay quite a sum of money to eat them.
So, it was not a surprise to see that during a preview of the hub recently, many guests including those from the media truly enjoying the fruit and going on to take more than just one round of the premium durians that were served.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the hotel said several special stays were on offer during this durian season, including the “Durian Meeting Escape”.
“Redefining what a corporate break can be, the plan moves beyond the usual coffee and pastries, it introduces a bold seasonal shift, that replaces the standard afternoon refreshment with freshly served durians and ice kacang. Positioned as a post-meeting reward rather than a routine break, it transforms training sessions and corporate gatherings into a more memorable, distinctly local experience,” she said.
