STOCKHOLM, Aug 19 (Bernama-dpa) — Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit is celebrating her 53rd birthday in private, according to a statement from the royal court on Wednesday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The wife of Crown Prince Haakon is also marking the start of a new chapter in her life, following her recent lung transplant.
She had been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis since 2018, an incurable lung disease that causes, among other symptoms, shortness of breath and a dry cough.
Her condition had been steadily deteriorating since the end of last year.
According to doctors’ estimates shortly before the surgery, she would have had only one year left to live without a new organ. Now, above all, they say, the princess needs rest.
