KUALA LUMPUR, July 10: The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) will continue its commitment to propel the role of chartered secretaries and governance professionals in Malaysia, says its newly-elected president, Dato’ Akbar Moidunny.
MAICSA, in a statement issued today after its council meeting yesterday, said Akbar shared his leadership vision and action plan after his election as the new president that included driving MAICSA forward in enhancing professional development and education, promoting good governance and ethical practices, and strengthening member engagement and support.
Akbar, who had succeeded Simon Yeoh, said that he would also expand MAICSA’s influence and advocacy, leverage on technology for innovation, and foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity.
Akbar, the group chairman and chief executive officer of the MINC Group of Companies, Malaysia since 1986, has led the company to provide corporate secretarial and governance consultancy services to more than 1,000 companies.
With over 37 years of professional experience, Akbar has been involved in various aspects of secretarial assignments, including consultancy, restructuring, and due diligence for both multinational and local corporations.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Akbar actively participates in speaking engagements at forums on corporate legislation and serves as a mediator in corporate disputes.
He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) and the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council Malaysia.
MAICSA chief executive officer Justin J Anthony also announced the appointment of Dipak Kaur as deputy president and Nandita Choudhury as vice-president.
The new 2024 MAICSA line-up includes Associate Professor Noorbijan Abu Bakar as honorary secretary, Lee Mi Ryoung as honorary treasurer, Simon Yeoh as the immediate past president, and Datuk Suseela Menon as the past president.
The other council members are Samantha Tai and Ivy Chin while its new council members are Dr. Hj. Mazlan Hj. Ahmad, Maheswari Kanniah, and Intan Nabilaa Idrus (co-opted).
Suseela has also been elected as MAICSA’s representative to the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) UK.
MAICSA, the premier professional body for chartered secretaries and chartered governance professionals in Malaysia, has a membership of more than 6,000, including members, affiliates, students, and graduates.
Established in 1959, the institute is also an affiliate body to The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI), United Kingdom.
