KUCHING, Jan 11: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) will be meeting with airline companies to request extra flights during the upcoming Chinese New Year and school holidays.
Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin also urged travellers to plan and book their flights in advance for the upcoming period.
“By booking their flights early, they will get the best fares compared to last-minute bookings,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, Lee said he received a delegation from AirAsia and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (MAHB) at his office yesterday.
During the meeting, he was briefed on AirAsia Sarawak’s operational performance in 2023 and their plans for 2024.
“According to AirAsia, the passenger load to Sarawak was generally very good and is expected to continue in 2024, except for the Singapore-Miri and Sibu routes, where AirAsia is in the process of discontinuing the routes in February this year due to escalating losses,” he said.
During the discussion, Lee also suggested that AirAsia increase the frequency of Kuching-Jakarta flights as the current load factor is good.
