KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) — The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) has denied issuing any letters requesting members of the public to hand over or deposit their savings into company or personal accounts, purportedly for investment purposes.
Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani reminded the public not to be deceived by scams involving forged MITI letters used to solicit money.
“The public is advised to remain vigilant and to lodge a police report immediately if they receive any suspicious letters or investment offers,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Johari also uploaded a video showing an individual meeting him while carrying a letter bearing the national coat of arms and the ministry’s letterhead, asking for RM3,000 in exchange for promised returns.
In the video, Johari advised the individual to lodge a police report regarding the letter, which was purportedly signed by him, for further action.
