KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 – With the exception of two incidents, all went well at today’s nomination process for the 15th Melaka State Election set for Nov 20, the Election Commission (EC) said in a press statement here today.
The candidates and the representatives followed the standard operating procedures as set by the National Security Council in view of the Covid-19.
The nomination papers of 112 candidates were received and their candidacy confirmed at the closing of the nomination process in all the 28 nomination centres in Melaka today, the EC said.
The 112 candidates will comprise 28 candidates respectively from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN), and Pakatan Harapan (PH), five candidates from Parti Bumiputra Perkasa Malaysia (PUTRA), one from Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional (IMAN) and 22 independent.
The candidates are aged from 21 to 68, with the oldest candidate to contest for the Pengkalan Batu state seat and the youngest to fight for the Sungai Rambai state seat.
Ninety-six of the candidates are men while women will be vying for 16 seats.
The campaigning period for the election will be on until 11.59pm, Nov 19.
