KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 – The Japanese Government today said it has never requested the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to deny entry of athletes from several countries including Malaysia.

In a statement issued through its Embassy here, Japan said it welcomed Malaysian athletes and sincerely hoped they will achieve great results in the Tokyo Games.

Responding to recent reports in the media that athletes from Malaysia and several other countries, where new variants of the COVID-19 cases were found, would be denied entry to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the statement said necessary preparations were being taken including putting in place full measures to prevent infection.

The measures are being taken to ensure that the Tokyo Olympics approaching next month is held in a safe and
secure manner.
