KUALA LUMPUR, May 14: The Higher Education Ministry through Yayasan Perkasa Siswa today handed RM25,000 as Special Disaster Fund to assist Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) students who were affected by a pre-dawn fire that destroyed the Boy’s Hostel three days ago.
According to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir the special funds were to assist students who had to be relocated after fire destroyed a boy’s hostel situated in Block B, Kompleks Perumahan Pauh Putra, UniMAP on May 11.
“The contribution from Yayasan Perkasa Siswa was in addition to more than RM200,000 provided by UniMAP to ensure the welfare of students, especially those who would be temporarily relocated.
“I represent the entire ministry to pray for the safety and security of the students. We pray that the students affected by the incident will stay calm, strong and be given the strength to continue their journey in pursuing their dreams,” he said through a Facebook posting today.
The contribution was handed by the Higher Education director-general who is also a Board of Trustees in the Foundation, Prof Dr Azlinda Azman to UniMAP vice chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli in Putrajaya, today.
In the Facebook posting Zambry said KPT was always concerned with the welfare and wellbeing of students, in line with the concept of the MADANI government.
