TEHRAN, April 15 (Bernama-Irna) — A senior Iranian commander has issued a fresh warning to the United States (US) over its maritime siege aimed at creating insecurity for Iranian commercial ships and oil tankers, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in a message on Wednesday announced that Iran would consider it a prelude to the breach of the ceasefire if US continues its “illegal maritime actions.”
He threatened that Iranian armed forces would not allow any export and import to continue in the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea region, in the face of the US maritime aggression.
Abdollahi emphasised that Iran, as always, would continue to take decisive actions to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as safeguard its national interests.
On Monday, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) declared implementing a blockade of all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports pursuant to a presidential proclamation, a move that runs counter to international law and the UN Charter.
The IRGC has already reiterated the Islamic Republic’s firm stance on regional maritime safety, making it clear that the security of ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman must either belong to everyone or to no one.
