German 7-Year-Old Rocks Up To School With €5,000 In Backpack

HANOVER (Germany), March 12 (Bernama-dpa) — A seven-year-old boy enjoyed a brief moment of fame at his German primary school when he brought in €5,000 (US$5,700) in cash, German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing police on Thursday.

The boy came in on Wednesday with the money in an envelope inside his backpack, making him “the most popular pupil of the morning” at the school near the northern city of Osnabrück, police said.

According to police, he had found the cash at home and was eager to show off the bills to his classmates, allowing them to touch and smell them.

A teacher called the police when she noticed what was going on and officers found out that the money belonged to the boy’s parents, who had withdrawn it to purchase a car.

The cash has since been returned to the parents, police said.
