KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 23: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) busted a subsidised cooking oil pack smuggling syndicate operating in Terengganu and arrested four individuals, including a woman.
Terengganu KPDN director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the four individuals, aged 20 to 40, were arrested and 3,400 kilogrammes of cooking oil packs, a car and a lorry were seized during the operation around Hulu Terengganu district at about 9.30 am today.
“The raiding team stopped and inspected a lorry and a car believed to be used in the misappropriation of subsidised cooking oil and smuggling activities in front of a house in Kampung Bukit Diman, Ajil, near here today, adding that the total value of seizures was around RM103,500.
The syndicate would buy cooking oil packs from various locations and store them temporarily at the house before selling them on the black market and smuggling them abroad, he said, adding that the four suspects are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
