KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) — Diplomatic missions in Malaysia have extended their condolences on the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, honouring her legacy in public health and social service.
The Australian High Commission expressed sadness over Dr Siti Hasmah’s passing and extended its deepest condolences to the people of Malaysia.
“Her life of service and her enduring legacy will be remembered with great respect and affection,” it said in a written message to Bernama.
Spanish Ambassador-designate to Malaysia Sergi Farré Salvá said Dr Siti Hasmah left a remarkable legacy of public service as a physician and through her decades of support for health, education and the advancement of women.
“Spain stands in solidarity with its friend Malaysia at this moment of mourning,” he said in a statement to Bernama.
The Russian Embassy remembered Dr Siti Hasmah as a distinguished physician and a prominent public figure, highlighting her compassion, humility and dedication to the well-being of others.
“Her contributions to Malaysian society, particularly in the field of public health and numerous humanitarian and social initiatives, will remain an important part of her enduring legacy,” it said in a Facebook post.
The US Embassy similarly described Dr Siti Hasmah as a pioneering physician who devoted her life to public health, family welfare and service to Malaysians.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, their family, and all Malaysians who mourn her loss,” it said in a Facebook post.
The British High Commission said in a Facebook post that its thoughts and prayers were with Tun Dr Mahathir and his family, as well as the people of Malaysia, during this difficult time.
The Venezuelan Embassy also highlighted Dr Siti Hasmah’s legacy as a pioneer in medicine and her dedication to public and social service.
“We pay tribute to her extraordinary career, her valuable legacy as a pioneer in medicine, and her tireless dedication to public and social service for the nation,” it said.
Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning at the age of 100. She was laid to rest at Pusara Negara, Precinct 20, Putrajaya at 6.20 pm on Monday, with former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, their children and family members present.
