PETALING JAYA, Dec 23 – Locally produced Detective Maniam is the latest mini web-series that has hit the YouTube channel. Directed by local filmmaker R. Azizan, the series was developed, inspired by True Detective.

Produced by Digi, the web-series revolves around a detective who has left the police force but returns to work in the wake of several murders. Set in the fictional city of Besant, Detective Maniam is played by Loga Varman who attempts to resolve the mystery of several missing women in the Trident Killer’s case.

It was the same case that Detective Maniam had refused to let go and which had continued to haunt him even after leaving the force.

Directed by local director R.Azizan, the detective web-series went online earlier in December.

When similar cases of missing women and dead bodies turn up, he is pulled back into the cat and mouse game with the killer.

The series offers viewers an insight into the dark world of sexual perversion, torture and terror, as it takes them a thrilling journey to find the killer.

Speaking to Weekly Echo, Azizan said he was excited when he was approached by Digi to direct their first mini web series.

“They had watched my earlier direction in Nadunisi KL, a local anthology series which premiered on Astro and liked what they saw. I am grateful for the opportunity given and I hope the audience will enjoy it too,” he said.

Experimenting with neo noir style in its presentation and picturisation, the crime drama consists of 10 episodes with eight minutes run time.
