KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 – Aireen Omar has been appointed chairperson of the inaugural Board of Directors of AI Malaysia Bhd, the institution tasked with coordinating Malaysia’s national artificial intelligence (AI) agenda.
The appointment follows the launch of AI Malaysia Bhd by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 28.
AI Malaysia Bhd is the Ministry of Digital’s lead agency for coordinating the national AI agenda, promoting safe and responsible AI adoption and driving the National AI Action Plan 2026 to 2030 to achieve AI Nation 2030.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the appointment strengthened the institutional foundation for Malaysia’s national AI agenda.
“The inaugural Board brings together leaders from the public and private sectors, with experience spanning national transformation and public policy, digital economy development, investment and AI innovation, bringing complementary perspectives from government and industry.
“The establishment of AI Malaysia provides the nation with a dedicated institution to lead and coordinate its AI agenda. The appointment of the Board brings strategic leadership, sound governance and diverse public- and private-sector perspectives to this mandate,” he said in a statement today.
Aireen, a board member of Tune Protect Group Berhad and an adjunct professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, has more than 20 years of experience in business transformation, technology and regional growth.
The other board members are Ministry of Digital Malaysia Secretary General Datuk Fabian Bigar, Deputy Secretary General (Digital Development) Ma Sivanesan a/l Marimuthu, Employees Provident Fund Chief Digital Technology Officer Muhammad Afhzal Abdul Rahman, and Trendcell Sdn Bhd Chairperson and MyTeksi Sdn Bhd Director Foo Yen Ling Adelene.
Gobind said the appointment strengthens AI Malaysia’s institutional capacity and governance as it moves the national AI agenda from strategy to coordinated implementation.
