Kedah Education Dept Probes Kulim Student Fall Incident

ALOR SETAR, Oct 6 (Bernama) — The Kedah Education Department is monitoring the case of a Form One student who was seriously injured after allegedly falling from the third floor of a school in Kulim on Sunday and is fully cooperating with police investigations.

“Upon receiving information about the incident, the school and the Kulim Bandar Baharu District Education Office immediately contacted the student’s family, lodged a report with the authorities and provided psychosocial support to the student, his family and affected schoolmates.

“JPN Kedah also takes note of preliminary police findings that the student is believed to have been under pressure over his academic performance. Investigations are ongoing, and JPN Kedah is giving the authorities its full cooperation,” it said in a statement today.

The department said it took students’ emotional and mental well-being seriously and urged parents and educators to be alert to changes in children’s emotional state and seek assistance when necessary.

“JPN Kedah will continue to monitor developments and ensure appropriate support is provided to the student and the school community. We also pray for his recovery,” it said.

An earlier report stated that the 13-year-old was found lying on the ground near the staircase of the school’s Block E at about 3.30 pm and was rushed to Kulim Hospital with serious injuries, including bleeding in the brain, as well as facial and leg fractures.
