TANJONG MALIM, Sept 24 (Bernama) — The Registrar of Societies (RoS) did not arbitrarily order the suspension of all activities of Perikatan Nasional (PN), but did so based on complaints received, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
He said RoS was responsible for safeguarding the interests of members of any organisation registered under the Registrar pursuant to the Societies Act 1966.
“There must have been several shortcomings within Perikatan Nasional that led to the suspension being imposed by RoS.
“In this context, there must have been a grievance or complaint submitted by one of the component parties, resulting in the suspension,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid was speaking to reporters after officiating the first session of the 2026 Central Zone Polytechnic and Community College Convocation at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), here today.
Ahmad Zahid hoped PN and its component parties would respond calmly to the suspension, particularly with the Melaka state election approaching.
He said PN would certainly have their own plans should the suspension remain in force.
“The component parties will certainly use their respective party symbols to contest the upcoming Melaka state election or the next general election,” he said.
RoS had earlier issued an order suspending all PN activities effective Sept 23.
According to RoS, the action was taken under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 following a notice issued to PN on Sept 22, 2026.
