PUTRAJAYA, July 29 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Digital is looking to expand its digital learning initiatives beyond artificial intelligence (AI) with modules on areas such as blockchain, cybersecurity and cloud computing.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the move was part of the ministry’s plan to help Malaysians understand new technologies and how they can be used.
“People want to know what AI is about. People want to know how it helps them. So, we need to come up with modules that are short and straight to the point that explains what it is all about,” he told reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched AI Malaysia in Putrajaya on Tuesday, July 28.
Gobind said the ministry had earlier introduced AI for Rakyat to explain the basics of artificial intelligence to Malaysians. Now, the ministry is looking at different modules covering other areas of digital transformation, based on the three A’s, namely awareness, access and adoption.
People need to know what technologies are available and what they can do, followed by ensuring they have access to the technologies before encouraging them to use them, he said.
The move comes after Anwar announced that 100,000 Malaysians aged between 18 and 30 would be offered access to AI-related programmes.
Gobind said the ministry would work on preparing the modules before introducing digital accreditation for those who go through the courses.
“With that accreditation, there will be rewards. For example, tokens that they are able to use,” he said.
However, details on the AI software that would be offered under the programme are yet to be finalised as discussions are still ongoing, he said, adding that an announcement will be made once they are finalised.
Gobind said the government would also look into giving priority to Malaysian businesses before the initiative is launched.
