ALOR SETAR, Feb 14: A total of 24 Kedah athletes who represented the country a the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Cambodian South East Asian (SEA) Games received rewards totalling RM60,000 from the state government.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said three Commonwealth Games athletes and 21 SEA Games athletes were rewarded for winning medals.
“The state government is proud of the achievements of these Kedah fighters and it’s hoped their success will inspire other Kedah athletes to work harder, train more to represent the country and win medals at international meets.
“The rewards aren’t the true value (of their sacrifice), but are tokens of appreciation and to honour their sacrifices and victories,” he said at the presentation ceremony in Wisma Darul Aman here today.
Athletes who won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games received RM5,000, silver RM,3000 and RM2,000 for bronze, while SEA Games gold medallists received RM3,000, silver medallists RM2,000 and bronze medallists RM1,000.
Those who received their rewards for the Commonwealth Games included Pearly Tan (badminton); Muhammad Aznil Bidin (weightlifting) and Aifa Azman (squash) while SEA Games medallists included those from sailing, silat, women’s hockey, taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, karate, weightlifting, cricket and e-sports.
