BANGKOK, May 21 (Bernama) — A man from England has been confirmed as the only casualty on the Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight SQ321 from London to Singapore which was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) Tuesday afternoon following severe turbulence.
Suvarnabhumi Airport director Kittipong Kittikachorn said the 73-year old English man has been confirmed to have died on board flight SQ321.
“The man passed away on board due to heart attack while seven passengers who are suffering from severe injuries have been hospitalised,” he told a press conference here, today.
SIA flight SQ321 from Heathrow, England, to Changi, Singapore, was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport at around 3.51pm, believed to be due to severe weather and turbulence while flying over Thai airspace.
Kittipong said 16 passengers who suffered slight injuries were hospitalised in Bangkok’s hospital while 32 other passengers including nine SIA cabin crew were also sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
“Only 14 passengers from the SQ321 are currently receiving treatment at the holding area in BKK while awaiting for flight to Singapore tonight,” he said.
He added that the Airport Authority of Thailand is cooperating with Singapore to transfer all passengers back to Singapore.
