UNSC adopts presidential statement on Ukraine, expresses strong support for UN’s peace efforts

UNITED NATIONS, May 7 – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted the presidential statement on Ukraine submitted by the US at its session on Friday following the Russia-Ukraine conflict that erupted in February this year.

The United States is holding the presidency of the UN Security Council in May.

The statement said the council was deeply concerned with the maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine, and expressed strong support for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres efforts to seek a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

According to the statement, the 15-member organ also requested that the secretary general deliver a briefing in due course.
