KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) — Having been part of Malaysia’s growth story for several decades, over 100 Swedish companies are flourishing in the country, with many calling it their second home.
Sweden’s ambassador to Malaysia, Niklas Wiberg, said the long-standing presence of Swedish firms reflected the close economic partnership between the two nations and Sweden’s confidence in Malaysia’s growth potential, particularly in the industrial and technology sectors.
“We have 103 Swedish companies operating in Malaysia at the moment. Many of them have been here since the 60s and it’s a second home.
“They are thriving and they are making good use of the opportunities, not least in the industry sector,” he said in his remarks at the ‘Pioneer the Possible – Innovation-led Green and Digital Transition by Malaysia and Sweden Dialogue’, here on Wednesday.
The two-day event brought together representatives of Swedish companies including Atlas Copco, SKF, Monitor ERP System, as well as policymakers and industry leaders for a high-level business forum and served as a platform to raise public awareness of the opportunities and challenges in these transitions.
Wiberg said Sweden and Malaysia shared similar aspirations as both countries aimed to promote innovation-led green and digital transition while addressing global challenges such as climate change and an uncertain geopolitical landscape.
“We have climate change, we have an uncertain geopolitical landscape. Some countries are turning inwards, tariffs are on the rise and the system and the old world order that we have taken for granted is about to be replaced with something new that has not yet been defined.
“But what is still true and valid are the opportunities, the opportunities that we see here in Malaysia and the opportunities to work together to drive improvements in efficiency,” he said, noting that collaboration is key to strengthening bilateral ties.
