Sungai Golok in Kelantan-Thai border has been facilitating illegal immigrants into Malaysia

KOTA BHARU, Oct 28 (Bernama) — Seven of the 75 illegal immigrants including Indonesians detained by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) in an operation in Kelantan yesterday admitted to entering the country illegally via Sungai Golok on the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Kelantan Immigration director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the seven immigrants, all men aged between 23 and 50 years, consisted of five Bangladeshi nationals, an Indian national and a Myanmar national.

According to them, they were waiting to be taken to the  Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal, in Kota Bharu, to their next destination, believed to be states on the West Coast of the peninsula.

He said they were among the 75 foreign nationals, including Indonesians, who were arrested during the integrated operation carried out at construction sites in Pasir Mas and Kota Bharu yesterday.

“All of them were detained at the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said
