Strong Earthquake Reported North Of Indonesia’s Halmahera Island

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 – A strong earthquake of 6.4 on the Richter scale was reported north of Indonesia’s Halmahera Island today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a statement saying that the earthquake struck at 4.02am on Friday.

The epicentre of the 112km-deep quake was given at a longitude of 3.4° and 128.2° latitude, and 192 km from the island of Talaud, Indonesia.

There is no threat of a tsunami to Malaysia, the department said.
