Sri Lanka: Ranil sworn in as Acting President

COLOMBO, July 15 – Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as its Acting President today, local media here reported.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Division, Ranil took his oath before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

He is said to have been appointed Acting President by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Wednesday after the latter fled the country following mass protest in Colombo seeking his resignation.

Gotabaya, currently in Singapore, was reported to have emailed his resignation on Wednesday.
