Sixteen high-impact programmes to assist Indian community through Mitra – PMO

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) — A total of 16 high-impact programmes have been approved for the benefit of the Indian community in the country as of this month through the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

In a statement today, the PMO said the programmes focus on three key areas of community development: education and training, spirituality and culture and social wellbeing.

“This step reflects the continued determination of the MADANI Government to elevate the role of the Indian community as partners in national development through an inclusive, progressive and impact-driven approach,” the statement read.

However, several applications could not be approved, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes that overlapped with areas under the jurisdiction and management of the National TVET Council.

Also not approved were proposals that overlapped with existing initiatives under several other ministries, including the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS),  Health Ministry (MOH) and the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP).

“Streamlining is necessary to avoid role duplication and inefficient use of resources,” the statement read.

The PMO said the MADANI Government will continue to refine and evaluate the implementation of several other strategic initiatives in the near future to ensure the Indian community continues to benefit from fair, equitable and sustainable development.

“The government stands firm in its principle that every segment of the population, including the Indian community, deserves to enjoy the country’s opportunities and progress comprehensively, in line with the spirit of Malaysia MADANI,” the statement added.
