Samy Vellu played major role in the development of Malaysia’s road network – PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 – The late Datuk Seri Samy Vellu was one of the longest serving Cabinet minister who had contributed extensively to the development of the country’s road network, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who expressed his condolences to the family of Samy Vellu in a post on his Facebook today.

Paying tribute to the former MIC President, whose death was announced this morning, Ismail Sabri said Samy Vellu was first Works Minister from 1979-1989 and again from 1995-2008, and had also served as the Energy, Telecommunications and Post Minister from 1989-1995.

“I was saddened to hear the news of his death this morning. He had played an extensive role in the development of the country’s road networks,” Ismail Sabri said.

He had also played a unifying role for the Indian community and was a mentor for many of the MIC leaders, he said.

His contribution will be always remembered, he added.
