KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30: Harmony and understanding among the various religions are the foundation of stability and prosperity in any country, says Unity Minister Aaaron Dagang.
Sending his well wishes in a Facebook posting to Hindus who will celebrate the Thaipusam festival on Saturday, Feb 1, he said diversities keep Malaysia as a country that is united, with people respecting one another and living in the spirit of muhibah or good will.
He also called on the people, especially those in social media, to not use religion as a weapon to trigger misunderstandings and conflicts.
“We must, together reject the propagation of hate, provocations, sterotyping, and prejudices. We should instead, use the diversities offered by the various religions and races as bridges to unite, inculcate the value of love, good values and respect for one another,” he said.
The diversities of this country in terms of races, religion and cultures, are indeed invaluable blessings that have enriched the national identity and form the cornerstone for the development of a strong, harmonious and progressive nation, the minister added.
