KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) has become the first government agency to have a training centre accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), aimed at developing the competency, technical skills, and professionalism of its trainees.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Civil Defence Training Centre (PULAPAT) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provider, SG Academy (M) Sdn Bhd, recently, a statement from SG Academy said today.
The MoU, signed by the Commander of PULAPAT Eastern Region, Syahrul Sukor, and Chief Executive Officer of SG Academy, Datuk P. Sri Ganes, was witnessed by the Director of Training Management Division, Civil Defence Headquarters (IPPA), PULAPAT Jengka, Effeney Ali.
Sri Ganes said the collaboration will not only strengthen the public safety ecosystem but also demonstrated a commitment to high-technology-based education in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
“Through this agreement, APM becomes one of the first entities to receive specialised drone training under the guidance of a CAAM-recognised training centre.
“In the past two years, more than 50 APM personnel have undergone training under the Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) of SG Academy.
“It covers aspects of UAV operations, aerial mapping, disaster monitoring, and emergency mission management,” he said after the MoU signing ceremony, here, recently.
Sri Ganes added the training was also recognised as a high-impact technical education platform that would open opportunities for new competencies in line with the growth of the global drone industry.
The collaboration is expected to elevate TVET education through a hands-on approach and professional certification for APM personnel.
“Drone training is not merely about technical skills, it builds strategic expertise in making quick decisions during emergencies.
“We view this as an evolution of education, from the classroom to real-world application,” he said.
Sri Ganes said the collaboration is also in line with the nation’s aspirations to expand TVET education opportunities, particularly in future technology fields such as drones, artificial intelligence (AI), digital mapping, and aerial data collection involving government agencies.
SG Academy is among the main contributors to the national drone education ecosystem through accredited training programmes, strategic collaborations with government agencies, and industry-based learning models.
