Proposal on ceiling price for chicken, subsidy for farmers to be presented to Cabinet

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 – Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee today said the proposal on setting a new ceiling price for chicken and the subsidy rate for poultry farmers will be presented to the Cabinet on Wednesday.

He said this after chairing the meeting of the technical committee to counter food security issue here on Tuesday jointly with Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

At the meeting today, the committee had considered the proposal to set a new ceiling price for poultry as well as the subsidy rate for poultry farmers and this will be taken to the Cabinet before an announcement is made, Ronald Kiandee said in a Facebook posting today.

The ceiling price was set after taking into consideration the interests of farmers, wholesalers and retailers to ensure that the price is reasonable to all the parties. The additional Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) cash assistance announced by the prime minister was also taken into account.

The current status of food supply in the country, the prices of selected goods and the efforts taken to intervene in enhancing food security were all also taken into the picture, the minister said.

The supply of poultry as well as other commodities is expected to remain stable and sufficient, he said.

Meanwhile, the ministries are expected to continue to take efforts in ensuring that retailers follow the price controls on chicken and eggs.
