Popular Indian singer Kumar Sanu to perform at KLCC

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15: Kumar Sanu, the man behind many Indian cinema hit songs, will be performing in a concert at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today, Aug 15.

The popular playback singer, who has sung thousands of songs in various languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, and his native Bengali. is currently in Malaysia as part of a tour, which will also see him perform in Singapore, a statement from the organisers said.

Known as Melody King of Bollywood, this evening will be Kumar’s first-ever concert in Malaysia. He is also set for live performances in Canada, US and the UK in coming months.

Known for his unparalleled legacy of romantic ballads and chart-topping hits, Kumar’s voice defined the soundscape of the ‘90s, and his music continues to resonate deeply with fans across generations.

The event is organised by Rocking Rickshaw in partnership with Cinestar Events Australia and supported by Genira Creative Productions.

Rocking Rickshaw managing director Anil Goswami said the grand musical evening aims to bring cherished memories and unforgettable moments back to life on stage.

“This concert is a celebration of the timeless melodies that defined an era. It’s designed to revive the romance and nostalgia of Bollywood’s golden age, uniting fans young and old in a shared love for Kumar Sanu’s iconic hits,” Anil said.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Kumar said he loved Malaysia, which he had described as a country blessed with an abundance of natural beauty.

On advice to budding talents, Kumar said not to expect success overnight and spoke about the turning point in his career, the movie “Aashiqui”. He said even after that, he continued to work on improving himself.

“Time, talent and luck – you must have all three of these if you want to succeed,” he added.

Kumar (born Kedarnath Bhattacharya)’s accolades include five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer (1991–1995) and a Guinness World Record for the most songs recorded in a single day — 28 songs.

He has also sung iconic tracks like “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai” (Saajan),“Sochenge Tumhe Pyar” (Deewana), “Kuchh Na Kaho” (1942: A Love Story), “Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam” (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), and “Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen” (Baazigar)

Fans can also expect a rich mix of his greatest Bollywood hits, predominantly in Hindi, possibly accompanied by select popular tracks from other languages such as Bengali and Punjabi to represent his multilingual legacy.
