KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the process of procurement for projects will be more transparent and he may even sit in the committee selecting the vendor without knowing who the vendor is, but merely the contractor’s abilities such as technical expertise and financial strength.

Anwar said this in his speech at the launch of the MRT Putrajaya Line Phase Two at the MRT Serdang Depot here today.

Announcing a month-long free ride for people on the line effective today, the prime minister also said the government will continue to alleviate people’s burden and that this year its budget focus will be more on the health and education sectors. Enhancements in the transportation sector will be on focus next year.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that a committee on transportation is expected to be formed next month, April, to look into traffic congestion and other issues affecting the sector. The committee is expected to be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
