Parents group in Brickfields welcome KL Mayor’s decision to not include a new bicycle lane

KUALA LUMPUR. Sept 13: A group of parents, who had objected to the inclusion of a bicycle lane next to an extended pedestrian walkway along Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad in Brickfields here, have welcomed a decision from the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to continue with the original plan of only extending the walkway and dropping the plan of a new bicycle lane.

The group in August this year had raised their concerns when DBKL expanded its plan to create a bicycle lane under the road redesign plan for Brickfields. They said the plan would not only reduce the busy three-lane busy road to two lanes and pile up the traffic but also cut their access to a school along the road and make it difficult for them to pick up or drop off their children.

“The parents would like to thank the Mayor (Datuk Bandar Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud) for listening to our concerns about the difficulties with dropping off and picking up our children if the road is reduced to 2 lanes,” said the group’s representative Saravanan in a recent statement.

“We hope the long-awaited project will proceed as planned with all safety features included, minus the bicycle lane on the walkway, to ensure smoother traffic and safety during school hours.
