One-third Malaysians taken 1st dose of Covid-19 vaccine

PUTRAJAYA, July 20 – About one-third of the population in Malaysia – 10,097,841 – have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination as of Monday, July 19.

Announcing the figures in his Twitter page, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba said a total of 14,772,221 doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been administered as of Monday. This included the 424,936 doses provided on Monday.

A total of 4,674,380 Malaysians have also taken their second doses.

On July 16, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced the launch of the “Operation Surge Capacity” to ensure that every adult resident in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will receive their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by August 1.

The move was part of efforts to ramp up vaccination in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, which have been reporting the highest number of the virus infection.
